My Philosophy
On landscape / architectural photography
My principles had always been to stay true to the unadultered portrayal of the subject / place and accentuate on what is particularly unique to the place. From my experience, simple images evoke the most response from the viewers. Armed with a building and design background and creative eyes, I am able to appreciate built environment better and splice in the cultural flavours of the subjects in the same image.
It has always been my habits to read into the background and gathered all local knowledge of the subjects before I plunge into the image capture process. In depth understanding of the place and culture begot pictures that truly speak of the place in question, and creating a long lasting impression.
On People & Glamour
I advocate : “Making the subject look good is the job of the photographer.”
No two persons are alike even for twins. I made it a point to chat up with my clients to understand better and tailored my images based on what I learned from them. I always believe that it is most important to show the person at their “raw” form, something that is uniquely them and from the heart. Most clients went on to become good friends in my life as we got to know each other better through our exploration process.
I took extra pains to create a wedding story for couples. This is because I believed that the wedding day is an important day for the couples and a good photojournalistic photo story will help recount their wedding memories for many years to come. An important part of the process is to understand and get to know you and your spouse well enough for me to tell your unique story. I see the wedding as an opportunity to create the real you in a setting or environment that is truly and meaningfully yours only. Understanding each other allows us to be comfortable with each other and capture the candid but real images in a non-intrusive manner. Many weddings are done by a formula and do not reflect the true individuality of the individual couple. I only take a limited number of weddings per year because I do recognize that everyone is truly special and warranted a different treatment and artistic rendition on their important day. If my works do wow you, and you wanted that magic, I’m most honoured to be part of your magical day and the photo stories for many years to come.
